Jordi Ribas

Jordi RibasJordi Ribas, Ph.D., is Corporate Vice President of Search & AI at Microsoft, leading the product and engineering teams responsible for Bing search worldwide as well as Microsoft Search in Bing for enterprise. 

Since 2008, Dr. Ribas has led multiple product and engineering teams focused on AI products and services such as search, speech, vision, and digital assistants. He was on point for Bing products and growth in 2014 and took on all of Bing in 2020. In February of 2023, Dr. Ribas and team released the new Bing, which was the first large-scale search engine with search-grounded GPT answers and multi-turn chat-based search, launching a new era of AI-powered search. Bing tech and services are used by hundreds of millions of people every month including products of many partners like Amazon, Apple, DuckDuckGo, and Yahoo, as well as other Microsoft products such as Azure, Office, and Windows. Bing now powers over a third of PC web searches in the US (comScore) and is a profitable multi-billion-dollar business.

From 2000 to 2008, Dr. Ribas led a variety of product, marketing and business development teams in the US and Japan that delivered digital media software for Windows Media, Xbox, and CE products. Before Microsoft, he did research on data compression in the digital video department at Sharp Labs of America, WA, and worked as a researcher in NTT, Japan.

Dr. Ribas has published over 50 technical publications including 25 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers, 20 U.S. patents, and technical article contributions to standards such as ISO MPEG-4, ITU H.264, and SMPTE VC-1. He received the Young Investigator Award in the IS&T/SPIE international conference VCIP for his work on video compression.

He holds a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in signal processing and AI. He’s originally from Manresa, Spain.
